Shinji Kagawa: 7
The Japanese had an impressive afternoon, bagging his first assist of the season for the left flank. Hopefully Moyes will start him against Bayern.
Juan Mata: 9
The Spaniard’s best display in a United shirt – and it was no surprise that it came in his favoured number 10 position. He made a goal by winning the penalty and scored his first for the club with a tidy finish.
Wayne Rooney: 9
Led by example with a very well-taken equaliser and neat penalty. Rooney showed today that he is Vidic’s replacement as captain in-waiting.
SUBS:
Michael Carrick: 7
Replaced Jones in central defence at half time after coming on for Rafael and slotted in well up against the speedy and physical Christian Benteke.
Adnan Januzaj: 7
Was unlikely to be denied by Guzan immediately after coming on and set up Hernandez for the fourth.
Javier Hernandez: 7
Did what he does best: scored a tap in. Showed good movement.
BONUS – MANAGER:
David Moyes – 7
Yet again Manchester United started slowly out of the blocks, but Shinji Kagawa and Juan Mata’s combination play in central areas proved far more compelling than the recent long ball and crossing play the Red Devils have employed in recent weeks – even if Ashley Young was occasionally guilty of mindless thumping upfield or into the area. Four good goals were scored, and it was overall an encouraging day for the under-fire David Moyes.
