Two goals from Robin van Persie were enough to United to secure the victory, perhaps against the run of play, as their good run goes on. This is how we rated the United team:
GK) David de Gea 7 – Largely quiet but did what all good goalkeepers do by making a fine save from Graziano Pelle late on.
CB) Chris Smalling 6 – Was United’s best defender before having to go off injured in the opening stages.
CB) Paddy McNair 4 – A tough night for the Northern Irishman, who was being run ragged before Louis van Gaal sacrificed him after 36 minutes.
