- 16 Michael Carrick – 5
Carrick controlled the ball, and passed it sideways, then controlled the ball, and passed it back to his centre-backs. There is nothing else to say about his performance.
- 23 Tom Cleverley (Kagawa – 61′ ) – 5
His touch and control let him down on countless occasions when he was encouraged to control the ball in a tight area, and he didn’t provide the midfield with any thrust or dynamism either. Not good enough.
- 25 Antonio Valencia (Welbeck – 60′ ) – 4
Roy Keane criticised the Ecuadorian at half-time, and to be fair – it was justified. When he received the ball in promising areas, Valencia kept his head down, before delivering a shoddy final ball.
