- 25 Antonio Valencia – 5
Poor. Very poor. Got the ball, checked back, and passed it from where it came. Didn’t penetrate the Sunderland defence at all.
- 16 Michael Carrick – 6
Passed the ball all evening, but didn’t ever look like creating something in the final third. He looked frustrated by the quality of the runs players were making around him too.
- 23 Tom Cleverley (Fletcher – 74′ ) – 3
Gave away a stupid and needless penalty, and was hauled off shortly afterwards for Darren Fletcher. Could be the first to go when David Moyes can eventually sign a world-class midfielder.
- 11 Ryan Giggs – 4
Scored an own goal that set the tone for the rest of the game, and unfortunately, looked like a 40-year-old playing in a frantic cup tie.
- 44 Adnan Januzaj – 7
Even when he gives the ball away, the prodigal Belgian was still one of the only United players who looked like he could create something out of nothing.
- 19 Danny Welbeck – 5
Wasn’t given much good service up top, but didn’t do a lot with the little he received either. The sooner Rooney and Van Persie return for United, the better.
