Things aren’t getting any better for new Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal just yet as his side drew 1-1 with Sunderland in the Premier League.
The result was hardly unfair on the Red Devils either as the Black Cats had plenty of chances to take all three points themselves at the Stadium of Light.
Here’s how van Gaal’s men rated.
GK – David de Gea – 6
It was an assured performance from the goalkeeper who is increasingly looking like the only player in any real form at the back and he could do nothing about Jack Rodwell’s goal.
CB – Phil Jones – 5
Needs to be a bit more assured on the ball at times and his positioning is sometimes a bit wayward, but it’s clearly going to take time to adapt to van Gaal’s new system.
CB – Chris Smalling – 6
Defensively the England international was better, but when on the ball Smalling often has the tendency to waste it and should perhaps look at old videos of Rio Ferdinand for inspiration.
CB – Tyler Blackett – 6
The youngster has been somewhat thrown in at the deep end and is doing well in a difficult situation and after a shaky start settled into things a bit more.
