ST – Robin van Persie – 4
Back in the XI but did little to inspire, with van Persie still cutting a frustrated figure upfront as the service to the Netherlands international continues to be woeful.
ST – Wayne Rooney – 6
Upon being appointed skipper the 28-year-old clearly feels it is his duty to drag the team along, but as hard as Rooney tried he couldn’t get his teammates going.
Substitutions:
Michael Keane – 3
Thrown into the action after another injury, this time to Smalling, and it was a league debut to forget for Keane who is unlikely to feature again anytime soon.
Adnan Januzaj – 5
Scored twice on this ground last year to announce himself on the scene, but was far more ineffectual this time around.
Danny Welbeck – 5
Gave some pace and trickery that was desperately needed, but his final product was still some way off and Welbeck has still not established himself under van Gaal.
Manager, Louis van Gaal – 5
Still difficult to judge the Dutchman with such an enormous amount of injury problems to cope with, but currently nothing seems to be working for the 63-year-old.
