Would Manchester United be right to swap this youngster with more proven £40m star?
GK) David De Gea – 9
The keeper was in fine form, making several saves from Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli, and others. Where United would be without him no one knows.
CB) Jonny Evans – 6
Solid if unspectacular from the defender. Liverpool were allowed several chances but they were unable to put them away and ruin the Red Devils’ clean sheet.
CB) Michael Carrick – 7
Playing out of position in a back three, Carrick was important in his side’s efforts to pass the ball out from the back.
CB) Phil Jones – 6
The England international looked rusty after coming back from an injury. He wasn’t punished by conceding, but that may have had more to do with the opposition’s profligacy than great defending.
RWB) Antonio Valencia – 8
Great play for the first goal, and was important in giving width to his side. Was also dependable when forced back.
LWB) Ashley Young – 8
Similar game to Valencia, but on the other side of the pitch, Young was important in Juan Mata’s goal. He was dangerous going forward as well as defending.
