The Spain international spent four years at Old Trafford previously between 2004 and 2008, winning the Premier League title and Champions League in 2007/08.
Pique initially joined from Barca after coming through their youth system, although failed to truly establish himself at United and spent a year on-loan back in Spain in 2006/07 with Real Zaragoza.
The Red Devils allowed the 27-year-old to return to the Nou Camp for just £5m and the centre-back went onto become an established star for both club and country in a real boom period for both sides.
Since leaving the Theatre of Dreams, Pique has won four La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, two more Champions Leagues, the 2012 European Championship and the World Cup.
However, under the guidance of new head coach Luis Enrique this season the Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order and has often had to watch from the sidelines as Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu are preferred in central defence.
Louis van Gaal is desperate for support at the back with the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling failing to impress and Pique could provide just the experience that is needed.
