Manchester United get huge boost in bid to sign Real Madrid star
Neither side look to have a realistic chance of mounting a serious title challenge, leaving the FA Cup as their main trophy hope this season. Jonny Evans begins the first of six games on the sidelines following his suspension after the spitting incident with Papiss Cisse, while Louis van Gaal could shake things up elsewhere.
GK – David de Gea
The Spaniard has been a brick wall for the Red Devils this season and is reportedly being lined up by clubs at Europe’s top table. Van Gaal will want to play him to ensure the best chance of a win.
CB – Marcos Rojo
The Argentine defender has looked out of sorts this season and will need to come of age in the heart of Manchester United’s back line in order to have any chance of progressing to Wembley.
CB – Phil Jones
Jones will return owing to Evans’ suspension, but may have returned to the team anyway in an attempt to repel Olivier Giroud’s physical bustling game. If on his game, Jones can bring a calmness to the defence.
CB – Chris Smalling
Smalling is playing for a Red Devils contract next season and if he can help guide them to silverware this season, there’s a good chance he can get that. He needs to stand up to challenges and not pull out of 50/50s, something which he has been guilty of in his career.
