The Red Devils are eyeing up a £65m deal.
In a move sure to please most fans at Old Trafford, Manchester United are planning a £65m bid plus a player to lure Cristiano Ronaldo back from Real Madrid, according to the Sun.
Ronaldo spent six years at United and became a cult hero with the supporters before his world record transfer to Madrid in 2009 of £80m.
The 28-year-old has won a La Liga title and a Copa Del Rey during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, but has never truly settled and has refused to sign a new deal with the club with only two years remaining on his current contract.
Whilst Los Blancos are obviously keen to hold onto their star man they will not want to run the risk of losing Ronaldo for a cut price next summer when he has just 12 months left..
The Portuguese superstar did not play in Madrid’s final game of the season – also Jose Mourinho’s last match before leaving for Chelsea – having fallen out with the manager.
Since becoming the most expensive footballer in history Ronaldo has hardly felt the burden of his enormous fee, having scored an almost unbelievable 207 goals in 206 matches in a Madrid shirt.
Landing the Portugal international would be just the scoop David Moyes would want to announce himself at United, although it’s likely the winger’s close relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson would have made a return more possible had he not retired.
Also Madrid may be making alternative plans if the star does leave as they line up a huge bid for Tottenham talisman Gareth Bale.
The adoration shown to Ronaldo by Red Devils fans is certainly more than he is given at the Bernabeu and with the goal machine approaching 30, he may wish to play his latter years being loved back in Manchester.
