Manchester United are preparing a club record £56m bid for Real Madrid’s Argentine winger Angel Di Maria, as the player attempts to force through a move away from the European Champions.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Di Maria has declared his desire to leave Madrid, and was subsequently left out of Los Blancos’ 1-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid on Friday.
And according to Marca, Manchester United will move with a £56mi bid in the next 24 hours. It’s claimed that the Agentine will be offered a big-money four-year deal to swap the Bernabeu for Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal keen on adding his energy to midfield.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked, but Laurent Blanc has declared that the French champions may be unable to move for the former Benfica man because of Financial Fair Play.
United have already signed Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo this summer, but have otherwise struggled to improve on the squad that finished seventh in the Premier League last year.
They were uninspiring in defeat to Swansea City in the opening match of their campaign, losing 2-1 at Old Trafford. Injuries to Herrera and Marouane Fellaini have determined that United are extremely short in midfield, and Van Gaal is desperate to add to his squad before the transfer window closes.
