Man United expected to lose out on bid for Real Madrid striker
Gundogan was being pursued by FC Barcelona, who just took home Champions League title. Barca has dropped their pursuit of the German international though.
Man United is looking to bolster their midfield depth, and Barcelona and Bayern Munich are both out of the running for Gundogan.
Although they already have a valuable asset to their midfield in Juan Mata, Man United is looking to shore up even more depth there along with their defense.
Gundogan scored three goals in 22 games started for Dortmund this season, and him heading to Old Trafford appears to be a done deal.
However, Metro reports that Arsenal is also expected to pursue Gundogan, and their pursuit is sure to heat up with Man United being their main competitors.
Former Dortmund star Karl-Heinz Riedle told Goal that he believes Gundogan has the potential to be the next Xavi.
