The Netherlands international arrived at the Stadio Olimpico in the summer of 2013 from PSV Eindhoven and initially impressed before a cruciate ligament injury struck him down.
Despite this lengthy absence the Red Devils are still keen on signing Strootman in the January transfer window, with manager Louis van Gaal knowing the 24-year-old well from their time spent working together with the Dutch national team.
However, Roma have made it blatantly clear that they do not want to part with one of their best players and are now prepared to give the Dutchman a large pay rise to ward off United interest.
Currently Strootman earns around £25,000-a-week in the Italian capital, with that contract running until 2018, but after tying Maicon down to a new deal the former PSV man is next on the list.
