Rooney has been a Red Devil since 2004.
Unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney now wants to remain with the Premier League champions next season after all, reports the Daily Star.
Rumours have been rife of late that the England international would be heading for the Old Trafford exit door when the summer transfer window reopens on July 1.
Rooney, 27, had reportedly asked previous United head coach Sir Alex Ferguson for a transfer away from Old Trafford at the back end of the previous campaign, although the player himself has subsequently denied the Scot’s version of events in private.
Either way, though, the forward’s long-term future in the north west was very much open to debate, despite the fact that the Rooney has a contract with the Premier League giants that runs until June 30 2015.
Last season, Rooney had to play second fiddle at United to new forward Robin van Persie, although he still managed to net 16 goals in 36 matches in all competitions for the Red Devils, including 12 strikes in just 26 top-flight fixtures as Ferguson’s side claimed their 20th title.
And now it appears as though Rooney has had a change of heart and will still be a United player at the start of the new campaign.
