After having his first offer labelled ‘derisory and insulting’, Moyes returns to his old club with true intent.
Manchester United have improved their bid for Everton stars Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines to £35m.
United boss Moyes had an original offer of £28m rebuffed earlier this month, with Everton manager Roberto Martinez labelling their bid as ‘derisory and insulting’.
Goal.com believes the £35m offer to value Baines at £15m and Fellaini at £20m – still below the £23.5m the Toffees value him at.
United are desperate to sign a powerful central midfielder to accompany the metronomic Michael Carrick and, with Moyes’ pre-existing relationship with Everton, Fellaini was certainly the obvious choice.
With Baines’ selection in the Premier League Team of the Season last year and what many United fans believe to be a decline in Patrice Evra’s form, Baines too became a subject of intense speculation.
Moyes is of the belief that should Martinez hope to sign young prospect Callum McManaman from former club Wigan Atheletic then he will need to sell one of his prized assets.
With bids for Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara having both failed, Moyes finds himself with very few top-quality options left to fill the long-standing gap in United’s central midfield.
