Red Devils believe they have a good chance of luring Portuguese to the north west.
Manchester United are said to be desperate for Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale to sign for Real Madrid so as to increase their own chances of bringing Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford this summer, reports the Sun.
The Spanish giants are believed to be interested in luring the Wales international to the Santiago Bernabeu for a word-record transfer fee of £85 million when the window reopens on July 1 and if that deal were to take place, then the Premier League champions feel they would then be in the driving seat to re-sign the Portuguese playmaker.
The Red Devils are confident that a fee of £65 plus either Javier Hernandez or Luis Nani will be enough to convince los Blancos to part company with their 28-year-old superstar, who has scored an incredible 201 goals in just 199 appearances for Madrid since arriving in the Spanish capital from United for £80m in June 2009.
