Following their dreadful Premier League season, Manchester United have set aside a monstrous £111m for three superstar transfers in the summer, reports the Independent.
United boss David Moyes went to watch Porto’s Portuguese Cup semi-final this week, and he was keeping an especially close eye on striker Jackson Martinez and central defender Eliaquim Mangala.
Colombian forward Martinez has bagged 44 league goals since arriving at Porto in 2012, and has a release clause of £37m.
French defender Mangala is a potential long-term replacement for Nemanja Vidic, who is leaving to join Inter Milan when his contract expires this summer. Porto though are apparently unwilling to budge on Mangala’s £42m release clause.
Finally, with Patrice Evra departing on a free like Vidic, United need a long-term left-back replacement too. Southampton wonderkid Luke Shaw is the prime target, although he has a mammoth £30m price tag on his head because of his age and nationality.
These three transfers could set United back as much as £111m, although the club would ideally like to get much better deals on the Porto pair especially.
