Due to a financial issues at the Stade de Gerland they may be forced to cash in on their youth product, who first broke into the Lyon first team back in 2009.
Now 25-years-old Gonalons has spent his entire career with the club and to date has made 195 appearances for the side in all competitions.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the France international and there have been several attempts to sign the midfield ace over the past few years.
However, it was Napoli that almost signed Gonalons in the 2014 January transfer window and it’s understood the Frenchman is attracted by a switch to Naples.
Although there could be another option now as the Red Devils begin their own search for support in the middle of the park and have also joined the running.
Gonalons is a defensive midfielder who can also play in the back four and is utilised in the team to break up play and allow the more creative players to thrive.
This is something United have lacked this season, with question marks over the capabilities of Tom Cleverley, Marouane Fellaini and even Michael Carrick.
It’s thought that after a disappointing first term in charge, manager David Moyes is going to enter the transfer market with a large amount of funds this summer.
