De Gea Real Madrid rumours strengthen as Man United boss admits Valdes not happy as backup.
The Red Devils are also hoping to convince de Gea himself to stay at Old Trafford by offering the Spain international a new five-year contract worth a whopping £200,000-a-week.
Madrid are on the search for a long-term replacement between the sticks for captain Iker Casillas and view the 24-year-old as the ideal candidate.
De Gea is currently happy at United, but is likely to be tempted by a switch to the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and is looking to delay until the summer before deciding on whether to sign a new deal.
That is because the Spaniard wants to know if the 13-time Premier League winners have returned to the Champions League or not by then – which will be a big factor in his decision.
By that point de Gea will have entered the final 12 months of his current deal and Man United will probably look to cash-in should the stopper have decided he wants to return to his home nation.
If he does leave for £50m then it will eclipse the record £32.6m Juventus paid for Gianluigi Buffon back in 2001.
