The 24-year-old has been a stand-out performer for United this season, establishing himself as perhaps the best goalkeeper in the Premier League with a string of world class displays.
However, his fine form just looks to have made him more of a priority target for Real, who are keen to bring in de Gea as a long-term replacement for his fellow Spaniard Iker Casillas between the sticks.
It now looks as though a move is edging closer to completion, with Pedrerol all but confirming that personal terms have been agreed for the deal, according to the Daily Mirror.
De Gea has shone in his native Spain before, first catching the eye as a top young goalkeeping talent with Atletico Madrid, and it seems he is now ready to make the move to the Bernabeu to represent their local rivals.
