With captain Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie both in the starting XI it was youngster James Wilson that van Gaal chose as his attacking support on the bench.
CaughtOffside reports that this decision from the manager has left Falcao in a state of shock and the 28-year-old now fears for his future at Old Trafford.
The Colombia international is currently midway through a season long loan deal from AS Monaco, although there is a £43m option for the Red Devils to make the move permanent
The tactic from van Gaal didn’t pay off either, with United losing 1-0 at home to the Saints and being leapfrogged into third by Ronald Koeman’s side in the process.
It was an even more bewildering decision from the 63-year-old as well considering Falcao had started the last five matches previously and scored twice.
