Manchester United look to have received a major boost in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels in this summer’s transfer window, with the Daily Telegraph reporting that the player has told his German international team-mates that he’s close to sealing a move to Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old has long been linked as a top target for Louis van Gaal at the back, with United struggling defensively this season due to a lack of quality options in that part of the pitch after the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic at the end of last season.
Hummels, valued at around £35m, looks like coming in to replace the legendary duo in what would be a smart move by the Red Devils as they seek to get themselves back amongst the main Premier League title challengers next term.
A source close to the player confirmed that the German international is expecting to join United next season, saying: “He is preparing his exit and he gave some of the players signs that his transfer is close.”
Hummels himself has also recently hinted at a move, saying: “I think moving abroad will be good for my professional and personal well-being. Eventually, I’d like to leave the Bundesliga.
“Everyone knows how much I love it at Dortmund, but I also want to make sure I’m part of a strong team with powerful players.”
