Arsenal confident of completing deal for Gabriel Paulista despite work permit issues.
According to CaughtOffside the Red Devils are keen on the Brazilian themselves and could make an 11th hour move to tempt him to Old Trafford instead.
Gabriel has spoken publicly about his excitement at the prospect of joining the Gunners however, and manager Arsene Wenger has also admitted they are working on a deal to sign the defender.
Villarreal are holding out for the 24-year-old’s €20m (£15.32m) release clause, which the North London side were initially reluctant to meet.
Yet with United also circling they may just have to gamble and pay the full price, or risk their rivals stealing the march on their priority target.
There are some doubts as to whether Gabriel can make the move to the Premier League at all however, with issues over his work permit having never represented Brazil at senior international level.
