United want Welsh forward at Old Trafford but Spurs unwilling to sell.
Manchester United are ready to send out a statement to the rest of the Premier League by bidding £60m for Tottenham’s Gareth Bale, claims the Daily Mirror.
The Red Devils reportedly want the Welshman, 24, to be the first major signing under new boss David Moyes, in a bid to give the club a boost and offset the negative publicity that will be caused by Wayne Rooney’s likely departure to Chelsea.
However, Spurs are desperate not to lose last season’s triple player of the year, who scored 21 Premier League goals in a fabulous season for the north London outfit.
A move for Bale would smash United’s existing transfer record of £30.8m – paid to Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov – but £60m still seems an unrealistic valuation of the forward, particularly given Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to pay closer to £80 for the former Southampton man.
