RONALDO TO MAN UNITED?! Major bid ready for MEGASTAR if he wants out of Real Madrid
Mandzukic Juventus: Serie A champions complete £13.7m capture of former Man United target
After spending a long time pursuing Southampton defender Nathaniel Clyne, Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal has reportedly set his sights on Monaco defender Fabinho.
The 21-year-old Brazilian defender is expected to command a transfer deal worth approximately £12m, as Monaco is expected to ask for triple his current salary, which amounts to £4m.
The Red Devils are close to completing a deal for Fabinho unless their offer somehow gets hijacked by another club.
Fabinho scored one goal for Monaco in Ligue 1 play while adding another in the UEFA Champions League.
Monaco finished in third place in the Ligue 1 standings, and Man United finished in fourth in the Premier League.
Signing a young and rising defender would be an ideal situation for the Red Devils, and they will become a bigger threat to Chelsea if Nicolas Otamendi lives up to his new contract with Man United.
Fabinho and Otamendi fixing the Red Devils’ defensive issues will be crucial as goalkeeper David de Gea is expected to leave for Real Madrid.
