Manchester United transfer rumours
The Netherlands international, 21, has had a superb season in the Eredivisie this year and looks likely to be heading to a bigger club for next year, the club’s director Marcel Brands is quoted as saying.
Depay has long been linked with a reunion with manager Louis van Gaal, whom he played under to great success during the United boss’ time in charge of the Dutch national side at last summer’s World Cup.
United now need improvements in the attacking midfield area after some poor displays from Angel Di Maria this season, while players like Nani could leave Old Trafford in the summer after spending this season out on loan.
Depay no doubt looks like having the quality to make a great signing for the Red Devils after scoring 19 goals in 25 games this season, and Brands has conceded his club face a fight to keep him.
“The chances are very high that he leaves. If you see what clubs are enquiring about him, they really are the best in Europe,” he said.
“When I talk for PSV I would say he is not ready and should continue here for another year. But I am realistic and if I worked at a big European club, I’d buy him without question.
“With a heavy heart [we would let him go], because a great player and a great guy leaves. But we are also proud that a boy from the academy is going to make such a step.”
