United are prepared to try and sign Sevillla’s Moreno instead of Everton star.
As it seems that left-back Leighton Baines is going to stay at Everton, Manchester United have decided to turn their attention to Sevilla’s Alberto Moreno instead, according to the Mirror.
Red Devils manager David Moyes was hoping to tempt Baines to Old Trafford and nearly succeeded in doing so in the summer.
Whilst the Toffees slammed United’s bids for the England international – the second of which being around £15m – the 29-year-old was prepared to make the move to Manchester.
As it is Baines is now set to sign a new £75,000-a-week contract at Goodison Park and Moyes will instead look to Moreno as the long-term replacement for Patrice Evra.
With only 18 months remaining on the Englishman’s current deal, boss Roberto Martinez will be glad to tie the defender down to this new three-and-a-half year contract.
Evra’s current deal on the other hand expires in the summer and it’s thought that the Premier League champions will not offer the full-back a new contract.
Moreno meanwhile has been impressing in Seville ever since progressing from the club’s youth academy in early 2013 and has since played 42 matches in all competitions.
The Spain international is valued at around £18m, but with Real Madird also interested in the youngster United could face stiff competition.
Whether or not the English side can tempt the defensive starlet to the Theatre of Dreams is likely to depend on whether they can secure Champions League football or not – a prospect that looks to be in the balance currently.
