Inter to sign Barca’s Song ahead of United.
Barcelona and former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song looks set to bypass Manchester United to instead join Inter Milan in the summer in a £12m transfer, according to talkSPORT.
The Cameroon international has struggled for game time at the Nou Camp since leaving the Gunners in a £15m switch in 2012.
Since then Song has played 60 times for the Spanish champions, but has found competing with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Cesc Fabregas, Xavi and Andres Iniesta for a place in the starting XI difficult.
This is why the Red Devils took interest, as they look to overhaul their squad in the summer following a disappointing first campaign in charge for David Moyes.
Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley and £27.5m signing Marouane Fellaini have all been poor and it was hoped Song could come in and rejuvenate the United midfield – having already obtained Premier League experience during seven years in north London.
However, such is the adoration the 26-year-old has for Arsene Wenger’s men that the African admitted going to another English side would be difficult and now Inter look set to close the deal.
They too are trying to build a new look squad at the San Siro under the guidance of new head coach Walter Mazzarri and owner Erick Thorir.
Song will be given a three-year deal with weekly wages of around £80,000-a-week and join current United captain Nemanja Vidic in Italy – with the Serb having already agreed a deal with the Nerazzurri.
