The Red Devils are on the verge of signing Miranda.
Atletico Madrid centre-back Miranda may have played his last game for the club as Manchester United close in on a €30m transfer, reports Spanish daily AS.
This is something of a surprise move as the Red Devils had been linked with more high profile stars such as AS Roma’s Mehdi Benatia and Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund.
However, it appears that new United manager Louis van Gaal will secure his first signing since succeeding David Moyes at Old Trafford in the shape of the Brazilian defender.
Miranda has been in fine form for Atletico this season and played 52 matches in all competitions as Atleti won their first La Liga title in 18 years and also reached their first ever Champions League final.
At 29-years-old the Brazil international is hardly a star for the future however, and some critics may question if it is worth paying so much for a defender of his age.
The Premier League side are in desperate need of recruitment at the back with veterans Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both leaving the club this summer.
Therefore central defence is a priority for van Gaal and replacing the partnership that has impressed for the past eight-and-a-half years at United is not going to be an easy task.
Atletico meanwhile are already lining up alternatives for Miranda, as although they don’t want to sell the South American it has proven difficult to turn down such a lucrative offer.
