Borussia Dortmund’s star German centre-half Mats Hummels will reject a move to Manchester United in the summer if David Moyes’ side fail to qualify for the Champions League, reports the Express.
The 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most impressive central defenders in European football, and is expected to start for the excellent German national side at this summer’s World Cup.
United desperately need to strengthen their defence in the summer, with Nemanja Vidic leaving to join Inter Milan, and Rio Ferdinand possibly retiring.
Hummels though, apparently has his heart set on a move to Catalan giants Barcelona, who are looking to replace stalwart Spaniard Carles Puyol, who is nearing the end of a trophy laden career.
The centre-back is extremely composed in possession, but at 6 ft. 4″, he also has the physical attributes to handle the Premier League.
He would likely command a very sizeable transfer fee, but United boss David Moyes is expected to be given a huge war chest in the summer to rebuild the squad.
Only time will tell whether he will be able to convince Hummels of the United project.
