Manchester United have earmarked Bayern Munich’s Dante as a potential new centre-back option, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The 30-year-old Brazilian has excelled at Bayern over the past few seasons, and was a key member of the side that won an historic treble in 2013. Barring injury, he’s a certainty to make Brazil’s World Cup squad in the summer, as he is as strong as he is composed on the ball.
He apparently told Brazilian radio that while a move to the Premier league champions is not finalised, it could be by the end of the month.
“I’m still not (a United player). I continue at Bayern, and I thank Manchester United for their interest. It will all be sorted by the end of the month,” said the defender.
Nemanja Vidic has indicated that he will not be renewing his contract and will leave at the end of the season, while Rio Ferdinand has lost his pace and is no longer playing at a good enough level.
Dante’s agent Marcus Marin later insisted that no deal with United is done, but admitted to the possibility of the transfer in the future.
“They are a very good club – and a very big club – so it would be interesting if they were interested in Dante, although I stress we have not spoken to anyone,” Marin said.
“There is no agreement with Manchester United.”
Dante would seemingly slot straight into the United lineup if he were to arrive this month or in the summer, alongside either Jonny Evans or Phil Jones, if the latter is deployed in his favoured central defensive role.
