Jorge Mendes admits Nani could move to Serie A.
The agent of Manchester United winger Nani, Jorge Mendes, has confirmed that there is interest in the player from AS Roma and that the Portugal international could leave Old Trafford.
The Italian side entered the race to sign the 26-year-old along with Galatasaray and AS Monaco on Thursday, with rumours that a £12m bid would be submitted.
Now Mendes has added further fuel to the speculation by confirming that Nani is being watched from Rome and with only 12 months remaining on the United man’s contract, a move is highly likely.
“Will he go to Roma? Why not?” the agent was quoted in the Metro.
“Serie A is one of the best leagues in the world and Rome is a beautiful city. There is the possibility that he will leave United, but at the minute nothing is concrete.
“We will meet Manchester United and see, but there is interest.”
The Portuguese winger looked like he was heading to Turkey last month, but Galatasaray refused to meet the Red Devils’ £8.5m asking price.
New United manager David Moyes took over officially at the club last week and was believed to have spoken to a number of players about their future.
With Nani not being guaranteed regular football by the Scot a switch to Roma could look attractive, after spending six years in the Premier League.
The winger has scored 25 goals and provided 56 assists in 135 league matches since that transfer from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, but with stars such as Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Danny Welbeck at the club – along with new boy Wilfried Zaha – Nani could find competition for a place in the starting XI fierce.
