The current European champions have been long linked with a move for the young goalkeeper as they continue to search for a replacement for veteran stopper Iker Casillas.
However, reports in The Telegraph are claiming that the Red Devils have moved a giant step ahead of the Spaniards in their chances of keeping him by offering a lucrative £200,000-per-week deal.
There is yet to be any word from de Gea over whether he will put his signature on the new deal, but rumours are suggesting that he would be willing to stick it out at Old Trafford for at least another season, when his current deal is set to expire.
But United are hopeful of being able to convince him to extend with their latest offer.
