McNair has been in fine form for the Red Devils this season after being drafted into the first team by manager Louis van Gaal and asked to fill in at the back.
Defence has been a real issue for United this term following the departure of veterans Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic last summer – with the likes of Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling failing to impress.
However, despite the fact not many had even heard of McNair before this campaign the 19-year-old has done well when called upon by van Gaal, be that in central defence or at right-back.
It is this reliability that has probably seen the teenager rewarded with this new deal and along with fellow youngster Tyler Blackett the Northern Irishman represents the future of the Man United back line.
“I’m very happy. It’s a boyhood dream [to be in the first team],” McNair said.
“I never would have expected this 12 months ago but it just shows how fast football can change.
“It’s great to be playing in the first team most weeks, playing at Old Trafford and going to different stadiums, playing against some of the best teams in the world.”
