Wigan are in talks to sign Manchester United teenager Angelo Henriquez in an emergency loan deal, reports the Daily Mirror.
Latics forward Arouna Kone is set to join the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations next month and boss Roberto Martinez is keen to get Henriquez on board as soon as possible as cover to cover for the former Levante striker.
The Chilean, who joined United in the summer, is already a full international despite being just 18 and big things are expected of the youngster at Old Trafford.
Wigan want an answer from United in the next couple of week, with Kone set to depart in the second week a January.
Henriquez’s chances at Old Trafford are limited, with a string of world-class strikers including Wayne Rooney, Robin van Perise and Javier Hernandez in front of him in the pecking order.
Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson would get a good idea of the youngster’s capabilities if he moved to the DW Stadium on loan and similar spells at smaller Premier League clubs helped Danny Welbeck and Tom Cleverly establish themselves as first-team regulars in Manchester.
