There is bad news for Manchester United in their pursuit of midfielder Arturo Vidal as the Chile international reveals he has no plans to leave Juventus.
The Red Devils have been keen on signing Vidal for some time and were reported to have agreed a £34m deal for the 27-year-old that also included striker Javier Hernandez.
The South American was due to sign a five-year deal at Old Trafford with wages of around £182,000-a-week, but the player has now quashed that speculation.
“At this point I do not go away, I stay at Juventus,” Vidal was quoted by the Daily Express.
This will come as a blow to United and new manager Louis van Gaal, who was hoping the Chilean would join his squad in the same week that Angel di Maria was signed from Real Madrid for a British record £59.7m.
It was thought the presence of di Maria would convince Vidal that heading to the Theatre of Dreams was worthwhile, but now it seems van Gaal will have to turn his attention elsewhere.
Ajax utility man Daley Blind has been strongly linked due to his affiliations with the Red Devils boss from their time spent working together with the Netherlands national team.
However, the Eredivisie champions have said that Blind will only be sold for a top price- – believed to be around £20m – and therefore the English giants may look to sign the younger William Carvalho from Sporting Lisbon for £24m instead.
