Two old foes will go head to head to win Italian’s signature.
Manchester United and Napoli are set to go head to head this summer for the signature of highly rated Udinese midfield player Antonio Candreva, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The Italy international has just shone for his country in the recent Fifa Confederations Cup in Brazil, where the Azzurri reached the semi-finals before losing to Spain in a penalty shootout.
However, it was the 26-year-old’s impressive displays at the heart of Cesare Prandelli’s side midfield that have reportedly caught the eye of both the newly appointed Red Devils and Napoli head coaches David Moyes and Rafa Benitez respectively.
Candreva has been at Serie A outfit Udinese since the 2008-09 season, however, in the previous campaign the attacking midfield player spent a season-long spell with Italian giants Lazio, where the player enjoyed his best campaign to date in his career, scoring seven goals in his 47 appearances in all competitions for the Romans.
And now Moyes and Benitez look set to once again renew their old rivalry from their days coaching Everton and Liverpool respectively should Lazio opt not to take up their option to sign Candreva themselves this summer.
