RWB – Antonio Valencia
In the new 3-5-2 formation under van Gaal the South American is probably the one that has taken to his wing-back role the best and could well have a future there.
LWB – Luke Shaw
Another new signing now with Shaw becoming the most expensive teenager in British history after joining from Southampton for an initial £27m fee and is also yet to play.
CM – Ander Herrera
Keeping up the theme of new signings this Spaniard joined from Athletic Bilbao for £29m and is thought to be brimming with creativity, but is currently injured.
CM – Daley Blind
We see Blind slotting in alongside Herrera in central midfield, with the Dutchman being tasked to break up play and protect the defence whilst the more creative sources go forward.
CAM – Angel di Maria
Upon arriving from Real Madrid this Argentina international became the most expensive player in British transfer history at £59.7m and looked good on his debut against Burnley on Saturday.
ST – Robin van Persie
Has looked a little jaded so far this campaign after his contribution at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, but van Gaal knows more than most that when van Persie is in form he is among the best in the world.
ST – Wayne Rooney
Handed the captaincy by the new manager this summer Rooney now has added responsibility and should look to lead by example.
