The Red Devils need a win after two defeats and a draw.
It hasn’t been great run of late for Manchester United, losing their last two Premier League clashes against rivals Manchester City and then West Bromwich Albion at home.
A draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk midweek in the Champions League was more positive, but anything other than a win against bottom of the table Sunderland on Saturday will be seen as a disappointment.
Here is how fanatix thinks the Red Devils will line up.
GK – David De Gea: The Spaniard showed once again against Shakhtar just what the 22-year-old is capable of and although De Gea is still prone to mistakes, is just getting better and better.
RB – Rafael: The Brazilian is back to full fitness and after playing midweek the right-back should be retain the defender’s place in the team.
LB – Patrice Evra: United still may be ruing the fact that Leighton Baines didn’t come to Old Trafford, but at 32-years-old Evra is still a top quality full-back.
CB – Jonny Evans: Rio Ferdinand missed out during the week with a slight injury and after a few poor performances this season, Evans could well get the chance in central defence.
CB – Nemanja Vidic: The captain is one the most reliable players in the United team and is probably on of the first names on the team sheet when fit.
CM – Tom Cleverley: The England international was solid, if unspectacular, in Europe this week but with Anderson and Marouane Fellaini both short on form, Cleverley should get the nod.
CM – Michael Carrick: Usually reliable, Carrick looked out of sorts against West Brom last weekend but is still one of the most experienced in the team.
RM – Antonio Valencia: Of all of the Red Devils’ out of form wingers, Valencia has been the best although it is still bizarre that Wilfried Zaha has not been given a chance.
LM – Danny Welbeck: A goal midweek should ensure that the Englishman keeps his place in the United starting XI and Welbeck is beginning to get an eye for scoring.
CF – Wayne Rooney: It was a big blow when the 27-year-old missed the Shakhtar clash through illness, but Rooney will be a welcome return against the Black Cats.
ST – Robin Van Persie: The Dutchman is yet to find that golden touch that saw the 30-year-old bag 30 goals last term, but it’s surely only a matter of time now the striker is fit again.
