The Red Devils have been linked with the promising young England international for some time now, with Louis van Gaal known to be keen to improve on his current options at right wing-back, with Clyne’s performances this season seeing him emerge as an ideal candidate for the role.
According to the Daily Express, a trusted Daily Mirror journalist told Manchester United’s official TV channel that his understanding was that a move was basically complete already.
The Express adds that the move could cost United £17m, with unwanted striker Javier Hernandez possibly moving to the St Mary’s Stadium as part of the deal.
Clyne has also been previously quoted as saying he dreams of playing in the Champions League, strongly hinting that he’d be open to leaving the Saints at the end of this season.
