Spaniard says England forward has the technique needed be a Barca player.
FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has urged unsettled Manchester United front man Wayne Rooney to come and join him at the Camp Nou next season, reports the Daily Mail.
The England international has been the subject of much speculation of late linking him with a possible big-money move away from Old Trafford this summer, especially after it had emerged that Rooney had handed in a transfer request towards the back-end of the previous campaign.
However, the 27-year-old has since strongly denied those stories, although there are still understood to be grave question marks surrounding the striker’s future in the north west, especially after Rooney hit just 16 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils last season.
And now Spain international Pique, who himself used to play alongside Rooney in a United shirt for four years between 2004 and 20008 before the centre back moved back to the Catalan giants, has told his former team-mate to sign for Barca this summer.
“I know he has what’s needed to be one of the three best players in the world. He’d fit well with Barcelona,” Pique was quoted as saying in Spanish daily Sport.
“He can adapt to many positions. He’s best as the centre forward, but we have seen him on the left or right side.
“He is very versatile, strong, fast and has great technique. I don’t think he would have any problems adapting.”
