Coach believes he is the man to sort Selangor out
The 32 time Champions have had a dire Malaysia Cup campaign so far, gaining only one point from three games.
They have slumped to defeats against Armed Forces and Sime Darby, and secured a solitary point with a 0-0 draw against Johor.
Temporary Coach P Maniam has been thrust into the limelight, after Irfan Bakti resigned from his post on Wednesday.]
Despite the immediacy of the job in hand, Maniam believes he can lead Selangor out of the Doldrums and towards success.
Speaking to The Star Malaysia he said: “it’s not a new role to me. I know the challenges and demands that come with this appointment.
“I’ve been in this situation before and my immediate task will be to make the necessary changes and get the team into the quarter-finals.”
The return game against Sime Derby is Maniam’s first challenge, with the Red Giants needing a win to have control of their own destiny.
Maniam said: “I’ve been an assistant coach with the senior team for five years now. I know the players well.
“Our biggest asset is the wealth of experience in the squad. We are down but definitely not out, yet.
“We can bounce back … I have faith in the players to raise their game and qualify for the knockout stages.
“All I hope for is that the fans will continue to show their undivided support for the team.”
