William’s four-pointer in the final 10 minutes set up an emphatic victory for the Sea Eagles. Manly had only won one game this season heading into this match, and that was also against Melbourne.
In a match dominated by defence, Manly went 2-0 in front after seven minutes with a penalty. Ten minutes later Melbourne responded with a try to Marika Korobiete.
Then Blake Green and Cooper combined brilliantly to put the Storm 10-2 in front.
The scores stayed at 10-2 at half-time. In the second half Tom Symonds put Manly right back in the game with a strong run.
Both defences were working hard. But with nine minutes to go the Sea Eagles got the breakthrough.
A perfect Daly Cherry-Evans cutout pass found David Williams free on the wing and he scored. Manly was in front by two.
The Sea Eagles managed to hold on to their slim lead in the final stages and they were finally back in the winners’ list.
