A 2011 NRL premiership ring is understood to have been auctioned off for $2300 (£1245) on eBay.
It was snapped up by Toowoomba tattoo artist Danny Wighton, who receive the jewellery piece on Monday.
The ring was one of 25 issued to the Sea Eagles’s squad following their grand final win over the New Zealand Warriors in 2011.
Wighton said he was unsure of the ring was genuine, but it had been authenticated by Sydney jeweller Allan Zreik.
“I still can’t believe it’s real,” Wighton told The Daily Telegraph. “At first, I’d convinced myself it was going to be a fake.
“But after getting the ring delivered, and then speaking with Allan, it’s definitely the real deal.
“I can’t believe anyone would ever sell something like this? I know over in America, if you win an NFL ring, an NBA ring, they’re cherished.
“No one gives them away.
“Maybe it’s a player who has run out of cash. Or an official who has fallen out with the club. Who knows?”
Manly officials say they do not know who sold the ring, and Wighton says he has no plans to sell it.
