Aussie tennis player Marinko Matosevic walks into sexist storm after comments on women’s tennis.
Australian tennis player Marinko Matosevic has copped a roasting on social media after saying that he would never have a female coach as he doesn’t “think that highly of the women’s game”.
Matosevic made the comments after his upset win over no.9 seed Marin Cilic in the first round of the AEGON Championships at Queen’s Club.
Cilic made the final of the same tournament last year, only to lose to Andy Murray.
When asked on his thoughts on Murray’s decision to appoint Amelie Mauresmo as his coach, Matosevic said it wouldn’t be something he’d consider.
“For me, I couldn’t do it since I don’t think that highly of the women’s game,” said Matosevic.
“But Andy’s Mum coached him and did a good job with him, so we’ll see what happens.
“It’s all equal rights these days so someone’s got to give it a go – it won’t be me.”
The 28-year-old has sparked outrage on social media site Twitter, with many unhappy with his comments.
Maybe Marinko Matosevic will say something smart on the thirteenth try, I dunno.
