The Italy international has struggled to find any form since his £16m summer move from AC Milan and many have accused the 24-year-old of being lazy and not fighting enough for the cause.
Rodgers has given his own assessment on the situation and will hardly fill Balotelli with confidence by claiming the forward may never be good enough for the Reds.
“I think the boy is trying very, very hard and long-term we will see how that works out for him,” the 41-year-old was quoted by the Mirror.
“He is working hard to improve to score goals and boost his chances. As long as he is doing his best, I can’t ask for anymore.
“Whether that best is good enough long-term who knows. But that’s the same for any player.”
Balotelli has scored just once since arriving from Milan and the form of Rodgers’ men has also suffered when in comparison to the brilliant campaign they had in 2013/14.
