The 30-year-old has found his form since moving to Turkey in the summer on a loan deal from Fiorentina, with Christoph Daum recently insisting that he deserves a recall to the German national squad, as reported by ESPN FC.
Given a recent run of six goals in seven games for the Black Eagles, as well as this important strike on Thursday, Gomez has certainly found his feet at his latest club and will undoubtedly offer Joachim Low another option moving forward.
The former Bayern Munich striker has scored 25 goals for his country to date, and he will hope that his goalscoring exploits this season will be enough to earn him a place in the Euro 2016 squad.
While Low is blessed with numerous options in attack, Gomez arguably offers him something a little bit different and that could be crucial as the Germans look to add the European crown to the World Cup that they won last year.
Nevertheless, it is still early in the season and it remains to be seen whether or not Gomez can continue his current form for an extended period of time in order to earn that recall prior to the European Championship in France next summer.
