Paul Pogba undoubtedly deserves significant credit for his play in the build-up as he drove through the City midfield before setting Alex Sandro free down the left flank.
The Brazilian star produced a pin-point cross to find Mandzukic, who had broken free of Nicolas Otamendi fairly despite protests from the Argentinian, and then made no mistake as he guided his effort past Joe Hart.
It was arguably another example of Manuel Pellegrini’s side missing captain Vincent Kompany who remains sidelined by injury, although they had a glorious chance early on through Fernandinho to take the lead but the Brazilian international blazed his effort over the bar from a few yards out.
With top spot still up for grabs in Group D, Juve will leapfrog their rivals into first place with a two-point lead if they can secure a victory. In contrast, City know that if they can turn things around and pick up all three points they will take top spot with a game to spare.
