It’s fair to say Mark Waugh is not happy with his old teammate…

Former Australia star Mark Waugh has slammed Shane Warne’s accusations that coach Darren Lehmann has too much of an influence on the side.
In an interview with 3AW, Warne suggested that Michael Clarke was the main reason for Australia’s resurgence over the past two years and that Lehmann had to be “careful” of how much control he had over on-field decisions.
Warne suggested that it was Lehmann – not stand-in captain Steve Smith – that made the decision to declare on the final day of the Boxing Day Test – an accusation Smith strongly denies.
Waugh told Triple M radio that Warne was entitled to say whatever he liked but said his comments were “unfair” on Lehmann.
“Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but Warney has never liked coaches though. When he was playing he said the cricket team doesn’t need coaches,” Waugh told Triple M Radio.
“I think it’s a bit unfair on Darren Lehmann, he’s done a great job since he’s been there. The side’s played very well since he’s been coach.
“Look, once the team is on the field it’s up to the captain isn’t it, but you need a coach there to mould the team and get the right team spirit and the right way to play a game.
“Yes Michael Clarke has been great as captain but Darren Lehmann has had a good influence as well.
“Warney is getting paid to make comments, I don’t think it would worry Darren Lehmann, he’s an old-fashioned cricketer … he knows where his job is in the team, there’s no doubt about that.”
Warne took to Twitter to clarify his comments, saying he was “mates” with Lehmann.
Some clarity, as some people out there seem to be making way to many assumptions. Boof & I are mates, he has done a very good job as coach..

The Australian way is this, the Captain is in charge not the coach. Boof would agree with me too, all I said is he has to be careful…

Let the Captain run the team & the coach prepare the players. Irrelevant of who is Capt or coach, that’s how the best Australian teams r run
