After his move to Old Trafford the Belgian has been tipped to emulate ‘King Eric’.
Marouane Fellaini can have the same impact Manchester United as Eric Cantona, according to former Red Devils defender Henning Berg.
The Belgium international’s £27.5 million deadline day move to Old Trafford from Everton was the only big-money purchase made by new United boss David Moyes during the summer transfer window.
Despite not being Moyes’ first-choice target Berg, who was a Red Devil between 1997 and 2000, is convinced Fellaini will be a cult hit for the Premier League champions and can be a match-winner to the same pedigree of the legendary Cantona.
“He’s not the kind of player to thread passes through but he has a sheer presence to hold the ball up, ability to win balls in the box and match-winning mentality – he raises his game for the big matches,” the former Blackburn manager told the Telegraph.
“Every game for United is a big one, so I think he will rise to that and enjoy it.
“When Cantona came, he had that mentality every game. I’m not saying he’s going to be the same, but he can be.”
Fellaini is expected to be in the United squad to face Crystal Palace on Saturday after he’s completed his national service with the Belgian national team.
